This one. Probably one of my favorite family shots in a while. This particular tribe, I have been capturing for years and what floats my boat, is that they completely let me have my way with them. Every time I show up at their doorstep, they are who they are. They don’t worry, they don’t fret and I don’t get a feeling that they have been shopping for days looking for the perfect get-ups. That takes a certain level of trust on their part. It’s not an easy thing to do. It’s an investment hiring a photographer and the natural inclination is to make appointments for hair and makeup and scour the internet for the nicest matching clothes. So obviously this group looks fabulous and their clothes are great, but it is their relaxed nature and the level of trust they extend to me that makes their images shine. I love them and I always walk away happy to know them. Not just as my clients, but now as my compadres. Because to create something beautiful together, there has to be something deeper than “say cheese”.
There are a lot of us out there to choose from. Many photographers with many different artistic visions. No one of us is the perfect fit for every one of you. I’ve always been grateful that I don’t have to be a jack of all trades. Grateful that when you hire me, you dig what I do. The relationship is important. The chemistry and trust is critical. Of course I want to be the one for you. But if I’m not, I’m still happy to offer this advice. Choose carefully. Even if you only hire a professional photographer one time in your life, go with the one whose work speaks to you and then put faith in that decision and trust them.
To my clients who put their faith in me. I appreciate it more than you know. I hope we never break up. I think you’re kinda hot.
